This year we were gifted with a new principal! She is smart, kind, educated, knowledgeable, and just plain AMAZING! We were all a little gun shy at first and personally, I felt like it was just too good to be true. But I noticed right away that there was something different about her. She had that twinkle in her eye, the way educators do, and the things that she asked us were actually questions that helped us think about how we can improve our teaching! It honestly felt like a dream come true.

There was one particular staff meeting that solidified my feelings that she was actually here to change things for the better, and also helped me to understand that she was on our side. She explained that we were in a unique situation. We had an opportunity that we may never get again. That we could build the school of our dreams. It was not about the physical building itself that she was referring to, but what was on the inside. And then she posed the question, what kind of school do you want to work in? And so our work began. We worked, as a staff, on a mission statement. One that we all could really agree on and work toward. One that we all believed in. After a few bumps in the road, we finally did it. And that helped signify our new beginning. Our New Paz.

My new principal has rejuvenated that spark in all of us. We are communicating, reaching out to one another, going into one another's classrooms, and building better relationships with one another as well as our students and families. We are becoming a community with parent helpers working alongside us. It is exciting to go to school and to see her smiling face every day. I look forward to my grade level meetings because I know that I am going learn something that will help me be a better teacher for my students. I no longer have anxiety about going to school and I finally see that the other teachers in my school have smiles on their faces as well. We laugh at staff meetings and joke around with one another. It's like... a warm hug.

We are so lucky to have her.

Cheers, to our new beginning!
